Dietary requirements other than for religious observance and vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian should be supported with medical evidence to the office please.

At Welton Primary School we strive to provide a safe learning environment for all students. Due to some of our pupils suffering with life threatening nut allergies, we would like to remind parents that we are a NUT/SESAME FREE SCHOOL.

An allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock) can occur through ingestion of nut products, cross contamination, and breathing nut dust in the air. Since this condition can be life threatening, we are asking all members of the school community for their help in minimising the risk to these children by:

1. Not giving children nuts or nut products (including sesame seeds) in their packed lunches (all school meals are nut free).
2. Not sending any snack or food to school that contains nuts and sesame seeds.  These products would be removed from the child and handed back to parents at home time.  
3. Do not give your child nut-based products to eat on the way to school.
4. Not supplying the school or FOWS with cakes or food items containing nuts for birthday celebrations, sales or events.
5. Not sending containers such as cereal boxes for DT/Art lessons into school which may have contained produce made with nuts.
6. Ensure your child carefully washes they hands after breakfast to reduce contamination of surfaces when they enter school.

Due to the severity of the allergies, we have in school, the risk to life is real.   There are additional actions you could take which would further protect our school community, we would be grateful if you would consider this:

• Not serving your child a nut/sesame product for breakfast e.g. cereal bar, peanut butter, or nut-based cereals.
